Ozone Layer Depletion – new concern in the list!

From the late 1970’s it has been observed that the Ozone Layer in Earth’s atmosphere depletes about four percent in the total amount of Ozone. the liquefaction of Earth’s Ozone layer caused by the exemption of various chemical compounds from industries and other human activities. Because of ozone depletion, the amount of ultraviolet radiation (UV Ray) amplified and it reaches the earth’s surface. To point out the effects of the damage, skin cancer comes first in the list followed by eye cataracts and impaired immune system. Around Earth’s polar region, reduction of stratospheric ozone led this affair to the ozone hole. In this climacteric situation, the Montreal Protocol came into rescue in 1987 which prohibited the production of ozone-depleting chemicals. The ban of chemicals came into action in 1989 and it consolidated the ozone layer and the recovery of the ozone hole will take over the next century.

Ozone Layer Depletion Causes :

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and the other substances are liable for this huge man-made inanition of the ozone layer. Moreover, Global Warming and Ozone depletion are interconnects at some point. As the increasing amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere spreads around like a layer, is responsible for the absorbing of infrared radiation. It is felt as heat. Therefore, the Ozone layer absorbs the harmful ultraviolet radiation but the CFC’s and halons are causing chemical reactions that break down molecules of the ozone layer which decreases the capacity of absorbing the UV-ray. So the temperature and the level of carbon dioxide of the Earth increases and led up to global warming along with Ozone Depletion.

How Ozone Depletion Affect Man-kind?

As mentioned earlier ozone layer depletion enhances the UVB which touches the base of the earth. Moreover, not only the effects are visible on human beings, but also the animals and plants I faces the affects. The effects of UV on human body increases the production of vitamin D but on the other hand, it carries over many untreatable diseases like skin cancer, cataracts, sunburn and many more. Moreover, scientists have developed that the incidence of cancers will grow as the layer of ozone dissolve. The damages of animal skins are responsible for the thinning of the Ozone layer. Severe sunburn led many animals to some serious diseases. Therefore, plants can bear a finite level of UV radiation, drastic change in the level of UV radiation can affect the growth of plants.

About The Prevention

Unfortunately, this is a man-made situation, only men themselves can make the situation better. Moreover, the restrictions implemented on the various products and devices which have carbon dioxide led us to this situation. Therefore, uses of vehicles, pesticides, products with nitrous oxide need control as these things destroy the ozone layer.

Montreal Protocol came into action. Therefore, the after that the ozone level stabilized by banning many substances which were responsible for ozone depletion. Moreover, it is the most successful international agreement. Only because the implementation of this protocol helped the man-kind restoring the ozone layer. Therefore, by around 2075, the ozone layer expected to recuperate pre-1980 levels.

Make sure to help the ozone layer to breathe again fully and follow the do’s and don’ts to prevent ourselves from harmful UV-ray.
